John Cardiel - Thrasher Interview

The snowboarding sequences almost prevented me from posting this, but I figured that the radness of Cardiel pretty much outweighs the shittiness of snowboarding. I hope that you all agree; I mean after all it was only 1995, snowboarding didn't become fully cringe-worthy for another year or so.

Ryan Hickey

I rarely read new skate magazines, but I happened to look at SLAP a couple weeks back and saw a pretty cool feature called "15 years of Stereo" or something like that. They included this amazing photo of Ryan Hickey from 1996, but made the unforgivable mistake of only running it postage stamp sized. Here is the original ad in all of its glory.

Caesar Singh

I rarely hear anyone talking about Caesar Singh but he was without a doubt ahead of the game. Best style, trick selection, and he had the good sense to leave before skating got ruined. Someone needs to put his part from Planet Earth's "Silver" on the internet somewhere. In the meantime, enjoy his interview from the July 1996 issue of Transworld.

Matt Reason - Transworld Interview

Matt Reason has been one of my favorites since that Acme video back in 1993. Here is his Transworld Pro Spotlight from April 1996. Click to read.

Lavar McBride

The people over at SKATEDAILY were kind enough to name this place "site of the week". In honor of that I will make sure to get something posted up every day this week. Here is a shot of Lavar McBride from Transworld circa '95 or so.

Robbie Gangemi - Strength Interview

Strength Magazine was always somewhat budget; their articles and layouts were often pretty bad and they devoted half of their content to snowboard coverage. Despite all of that, they somehow managed to feature some legit heads. The issue I pulled this interview from also had interviews with Stevie Williams and Method Man, photos of Scott Johnston, Mike Carroll, Jahmal Williams, a young Nate Jones and a rare shot of John Drake. Enjoy this interview with one of my favorite skaters ever, Robbie Gangemi, interviewed by Chris Nieratko in 1998.

Ivan Perez

Check this shot of Ivan Perez skating at Houston park. Ivan Perez was one of those dudes that I would hear or read about back in the mid-nineties, but I never really saw any footage or photos so I was left wondering why he had such a rep. He looks pretty good in this photo though. I don't even skate Ventures anymore, but I need one of those 'Awake' t-shirts. Would wearing one of those while skating Indys be considered perpetrating? Do they even still make them? On another note, I was pleased to notice that Quartersnacks included a link to this site in their news section. They are one of my favorite sites so go check them out - their spot directory of NYC is nothing short of awe-inspiring.
