Jason Lee - 1994 Thrasher Interview

Why would they use a three year old video grab in this interview? And what the hell is next to the flash in that b/s tail photo?

Anthony Correa

Anthony Correa was real sick back in the 90's - check the style on this proper b/s smith grind.

Ryan Hickey

Zoo York ads from 1994 and 1995 are amazing. The grimy black and white photos and their classic logo looked cool as hell back then and still look great now, even if the current Zoo York is a very different company. I remember thinking that Zoo boards were the sickest - anyone I saw skating one seemed just a little bit cooler and 'in the know'- their boards were a bit harder to find back then than the average Birdhouse or whatever.

In the mid-nineties Ryan Hickey was one of the sickest New York skaters. For proof refer to the NYC section in Eastern Exposure three, or any of his Zoo or Stereo ads. I heard that he is big time into fishing now, and I'm sure that he's real good at that too. Here he is in 1994 doing one of his patented frontside flips over the wall at the Brooklyn Banks.

Billy Valdes - Big Brother Interview

Skaters like Billy Valdes and companies like Menace are what made skateboarding in the mid-nineties so great. It seemed like skaters had a lot more personality back then which was a big part of what made people want to get out there and skate. Big Brother interviews probably did the best job of displaying these personalities due to their lack of censorship and general mischievous tendencies. Here is Billy's Big Brother interview from 1998.

Bobby Puleo

Bobby Puleo is one of those dudes who knows how to make skating look good, whether on film or in photos. All of his video parts are classic, and his interviews always make for a good read. Hopefully Bobby Puleo's Greatest Misses will come out soon. Here is Bobby's Thrasher interview from 1997.

Care Of Wheels

Lewis Cruise

I was very stoked when I received my Lewis Cruise package yesterday. Thanks to Jake, Gav and James for hooking it up. Hopefully I'll be able to film some stuff for the next video.

Roomies

How sick was the 411 roomies section with Gino, Keenan and Pupecki? Their flatground session got me more hyped than anything else at the time. To think that three of the most stylish skateboarders of all time lived together; spending their days playing video games, basketball, and legendary games of S.K.A.T.E. right in front of their house - the section was a great opportunity to get a glimpse into the everyday lives of three legends. Imagine if you lived on that street!

Drehobl

This ad is pretty hard on the eyes, but the trick is crazy - definite potential for a leg mangling.

John Igei

Capital was a sick company - I never got a chance to skate any of their boards, but their ads and team were on point. I've liked John Igei's skating ever since he was in the chaos section of 411 #11 rocking the puffed out vans old skools at Pulaski; here he is doing a feeble on a ledge back in 1996.

It seems like feeble grinds on ledges have become real trendy in the last couple years and a bunch of really sick ones have gone down. Still, when I think of that trick this photo immediately comes to mind.

John Cardiel

Here are two ads from the mid-nineties featuring one of my favorite skaters, John Cardiel. I can't imagine anyone looking better perched in a 50-50 position than John does in that first photo.

'Lil Stevie

Mark Gonzales

The first post of 2008 features Gonz with a big kickflip at Sunset car wash. I'm not sure if I've seen anyone else pop over the hip at that place.

60/40 always had sick ads; their commercials in old 411's were particularly memorable, especially the one with that crazy dude Bobcat. I always wondered how the hell they got a hold of that footage.
