MC

I know that there has been a hefty amount of Carroll exposure on this site lately, but the point of this post has less to do with his perfectly executed kickflip and more to do with the my own enthusiasm regarding Mike's choice of dress; a Stereo shirt and a Mad Circle hat. I don't think that too many pros would agree to be photographed while wearing another company's product nowadays. There was definitely a lot of pros back then who wore Menace shirts or skated Menace boards while not riding for Menace:

That's perfectly justified though, because Menace was just too fresh. And then there was that whole episode when Lavar got kicked off of Blind for a month or so for blatantly skating Girl boards throughout most of his 411 Profile. I'm pretty sure that the majority of the new career-minded skateboarders wouldn't get down like that.

Those Vans MC is wearing were really good. I wish they still made them.

Where in this day and age do you find a fresh pair of roomy chinos like the ones carrol is rocking.

That Lavar profile is way up there on the Unintentional Comedy Scale.

Royce - Lampins! So good. They came with weird fat laces that required switching, but those along with the first Agah shoe are definitely due for a reissue.

Where to go here...
1. It doesn't get any more menace tech than that photo. It's not possible. I think after he shot that sequence he went to a C&C Music Factory video shoot with Billy Valdez.

2. I don't know where I remember this from, but I think around 94 there was some big industry meeting which resulted in no one wearing plain white t-shirts anymore, nor random stuff from different companies, as in the above Carroll photo.

notice how his socks compliment the rest of his kit. subtlety is key. one does not have to deck one's self out in "flair" in order to look "dope."

HF-

Rocked both (lampins and agah1's) with conviction. Reissues would be ill. The Lakai MJ select kinda are like the Lampins

That's what I was always kind of stoked on about Girl back in the day, and still I guess to this day. They seem to be so mellow with other companies. While most companies would never ever hype up any other unaffiliated companies, Girl was doing tours with The Firm just because they were down. That's why I was so stoked on the Girl/Anti Hero demo. Just two companies that are stoked on eachother. You know, it's not like a battle between brands, more like a brothership, you know?

Anyway, seemed the same with rocking other companies' shit. Lots of Girl guys seemed to do it. Maybe it's because Girl knew they were so good that they weren't worried about hyping competition or not worried about losing riders.

I was never into the Lampins or the Agahs back in the day. Lampins look tight here, but I still don't know about those Agahs. But tons of people rocked them in Saskatoon when they came out.

Butla - Same place pro skaters always got them: The Gap or Eddie Bauer! Or try and track some Polo ones down. Should be able to get them at most Winners/Ross.

Oh yeah, great post Dylan!

Royce - N.Y. Revisited is the best, I totally slept on buying a copy and now I can't find one.

** - They were actually in a C&C video, right? Or something like that? I think I remember reading something along the lines of that way back then.

Jesse - Which Skateboarder is that Steven Cales interview from? I was looking through my older issues today and couldn't find it, but I swear I have that issue.

Watson - Thanks!

lampins are getting reissued later this year.
police informer scoop right there.

I forget what the issue number is. It has Koston doing a nollie (or maybe a nollie flip) noseslide down a rail on the cover. I'm pretty sure it came out in early 99, but I have that issue over at my mom's house so I could check for it next time I go over there.

Some of my friends used to work at this printing plant that does Skateboarder Mag, so whenever a new issue was done they'd grab a box of them and we'd get to check out the new mags before they even got distributed.

That photo is amazing. Check out how the sole of his shoe is flexing from the catch. Reminds me of when I started skating vulcanized Vans, I went from I-Path Cats to Rowley classics. Like switching from combat boots to grippy slippers. My foot would actually hurt from catching kickflips because the flick knob was turned up to 11.

Yeah me too. I think I found the video on youtube. It's probably a good thing that they did not make it into the actual video. It did not stand the test of time very well.

Oh dude, I know this is way after the fact, but when I was in Japan I was watching Super Champion Funzone, and you know the beginning when they are showing the day in the life type clips and Carroll is skating the Supreme bowl? He's wearing a Krooked shirt.
