Mark Gonzales

The first post of 2008 features Gonz with a big kickflip at Sunset car wash. I'm not sure if I've seen anyone else pop over the hip at that place.

60/40 always had sick ads; their commercials in old 411's were particularly memorable, especially the one with that crazy dude Bobcat. I always wondered how the hell they got a hold of that footage.

Dude! Fuck! I was telling Eeen about that ad the other day where Bobcat jumps off the garage and clips the truck and destroys his face, and then it goes to black with the gnarly high octave skid voice, but he didn't remember it.

Best ad ever, I used to watch that and rewind it and then re-watch it like 8 times over every time.

I'm pretty sure I have that ad on an old dubbed tape. I should definitely try to find the time to find it and google video it.

60/40 was so shitty, but so dope. 60/40 butterz for sure.

There is actually a longer version of the whole Bobcat incident at the end of the 60/40 video, "Glasses for your Feet". Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of that one anymore, but there was some good skating in that video, especially Gino Perez' part.

Aha! I rescind my previous statement about the Gonz not being able to do flip tricks. However, I still think Jason Lee was better than he was, though. Guy and Tom Penny are better than he was, too, but they wouldn't have been what they were/are if it weren't for Mark, you know?
All-time top five is probably Gonz, Jason Lee, Guy, Tom Penny, and fuckin' Hosoi.

I guess it all depends on one's definition of "better". I think that while Jason Lee and Tom Penny are both technically amazing, the Gonz and Guy Mariano are both far more innovative; while Tom Penny's skating is amazing looking, you kind of know what to expect, whereas with a lot of the stuff that Guy and Mark did you just kind of wonder how the hell they ever came up with that trick.
